Jackson-Triggs Winery, Niagara-On-The-Lake

My B&B host said that the winery is walkable and is only a 15 minute walk. I figured that for me the walk will take 30 minutes. It’s a nice day so I decided to take the stroll.

I love the cold and I live in a 65 degree air conditioned apartment all year round. However, in Canada, you have to factor in wind chill. A bright sunny day with crisp air can be hazardous when you are 20 minute into your walk. And, the walk is not all on concrete. There are grassy, muddy and icy patches on the road. I’ll try anything once. Walking around Niagara-On-The-Lake is now checked.

I survived my walk and the first thing I looked for was a welcome ice sculpture. This was what I saw, I’m not impressed but the wine might be good.

When I entered, the lobby had a lounge with a nice crackling fire. I sat to thaw my fingers from the walk because I ventured out without gloves.

What’s great about wine tasting is you get sample a flight of flavors without committing to one full glass which you might not like. For $10 or with a coupon from your B&B, you can taste 2 regular wines and 1 ice wine. I will not claim to know all the nuisance of wine so I let the wine associate choose for me. I like fruity wines, dry and with low acidity.

Niagara-On-The-Lake wines were perfect for what I was looking for she said. The weather here allows the grape to stay longer on the vine to achieve maximum sweetness.

Cabernet Frac Ice Wine. I’ve never tasted Ice Wine this concentrated. It’s so syrupy. The recommendation is to make a martini with your favorite vodka.
