Hutong at the Shard, London

Hutong, London

The real reason I visit the Shard is for its views and architecture. I love how a modern skyscraper sits juxtaposed against hundred year old brick structures in Southwark. I know, I like to see opposites balance themselves out.

As I make my way to the flight of stairs to Hutong, one of restaurants at the Shard, I get a glimpse of another one of my favorite skyscrapers, The Gherkin.

The dining area has a traditional Chinese decor, black lacquered furniture with red lanterns.

There is a peking duck oven.

I came for a quick bite so I ordered dimsum. The dumplings were not traditional. I don’t mind fusion style dimsum as long as it’s good. These were not. I don’t mind expensive as long as it’s good. Again, these were not.

I should have just ordered a drink at the bar. I now understand why there were so many people at the lower level having drinks. The food here is not good.
