High Street On Market, Philadelphia

Thank God, it’s the end of summer. I can’t stand the heat. The weather had calmed down this week and it’s pleasant. I’ve decided to resume exploring the city and picked High Street on Market for brunch.

The restaurant had been receiving great reviews. There was about a 10 minute wait for a table at 11 am. I like the decor, cozy yet sophisticated.

To start, La Colombe coffee. I like the stoneware cup. It reminds me of having breakfasts at my parents’ place.

I ordered the duck meatball sandwich. The bread was superb, freshly baked and crusty. The meatballs were just ok, a bit dry. However, when you take a bite with all the ingredients – the bread, meatball, the liver, cheese and the spicy sauce, you will be transported into a different level of existence. It’s that good.

This is the bakery part of the restaurant. It’s small and breads sell out quickly. At 11 am, there were only a few loaves left.

This is the prepared food counter with pastries and salad. I did try the potato salad. It’s German style. I prefer the mushy American style.
