Farmicia, Philadelphia

Farmica, Philadelphia

I came to know of this place because of a magazine article on uber in Philadelphia. Farmicia is the most popular brunch place according to uber drivers. Why ? I have no idea. The food is hearty but nothing special. It’s unpretentious food which is characteristic of restaurant food in Philadelphia. Maybe it’s the proximity to Independence Hall which made this place a social media darling.

At 10am, Farmicia was 95% full with the few remaining tables reserved for larger groups. At 11am, there was a 15 minute wait for a table. Usually, the bar area would be sparsely populated. But, not at Farmicia. Bar seating was completely full.

The trio of cheese was a good start to brunch. Farmicia selected the cheeses. I like the subtle and creamy texture of goat cheese. I think the hard cheese was made from cow’s milk. The presentation was so unpretentious. At $13, it’s good value. However, I still prefer the pretentious presentation of Talula’s Garden cheese plate at $20. For an extra $7, the toast has more interesting layers of flavor profiles. And, there are more variety of cheeses on offer including more fruit preserves. In comparison, Talula’s Garden provides awesome value.

My main brunch large plate of Jumbo Lump Crab Omelette with fresh tomatoes, sauteed spinach & mushrooms topped with Hollandaise did not wow me. There are so many other brunch places in Philadelphia which serve better food.
