Lolita, Philadelphia

It was a wonderful fall evening in Philadelphia, cold and crisp. Found myself in Midtown Village after dropping a friend off after work happy hour. The lights were beckoning for me to enter Lolita. It’s a mexican restaurant owned by Chef Marcie Turney who owns a few more restaurants, Jamonera and Barbuzzo, on the same street as Lolita.

The dining area was all booked so I opted for bar seating.

Lolita has an open kitchen format so you can see sous chefs prepping dishes from the bar. This was the first dish I saw being put together for another table – octopus tostadas. I ordered the same for myself.

I also ordered the traditional margarita with salt. It was good.

My order of octopus tostadas. The octopus was tender and the salad had just the right acidity to balance the dish. And, thinly sliced fingerling potatoes were added just in case the salad was too acidic. Every bite, octopus, salad and crispy tostadas was just amazing.

To top off the night, I ordered an avocado and lime ice cream. The order came with a chocolate cookie crumble. I had to wait a few minutes for the ice cream to thaw a bit to fully experience the flavors.

Lolita is definitely a restaurant I want to visit again and again. Sitting from the bar and seeing all those wonderful dishes being prepared was a great intro to what else is good on the menu. I spied the minced steak.
