Quick Stop @ Washington DC
The Summer Fancy Food Show gave me an excuse to visit our nation’s capital.
Where I stayed:
W Hotel, Washington DC – wonderfully located near the convention center. I hated leaving this place.
Why you should stay here?
Acura has a desk at the lobby, book early and a car will take you anywhere in DC. The front desk will tell you that the best amenity of the hotel is the rooftop. Well, they are incorrect. It’s the lounge next to the rooftop. The lounge has an incredible view of the Washington Monument and Jefferson Memorial. And, J&G Steakhouse is just downstairs (one of the hotel restaurants). Overall, the hotel is incredibly stylish, everywhere. Plus, it’s great for people watching – everyone who checked in looked cool.
CLOCKWISE FROM TOP LEFT: (1) Capitol Building just a few blocks from the hotel. (2) The “W” logo. (3) The bar. (4) The Acura vehicle that took me to Good Stuff Eatery. (4) The view from the rooftop lounge. (4) Stylish walkway which connects the inner lobby to the outer lobby. (5) The front desk flower arrangement. (6) My cool room.
Where I ate:
1. J&G Steakhouse
I ordered the prix fixe. It’s standard for every major steakhouse – salad, filet mignon and dessert. All the dishes were prepared nicely. What I liked best were the dried strawberry sprinkled on the cheesecake. It’s sweet and crisp – added a whole different texture to the cheesecake dessert.
2. Toki Underground
This is a damn difficult place to get to. I cabbed it from the hotel. I thought I was insane for doing so then I saw a local getting out of a cab to meet his friends for dinner. But, it’s so worth it !! This place is awesome !!
3. Good Stuff Eatery
I choose the most delicious and gooey burger available at Spike Mendelsohn’s joint, SPIKE’S SUNNYSIDE. At lunch, there’s an incredible stream of people waiting in line. I actually saw a few people from the W Hotel making special trips to just get a taste of the burgers. The fries were incredible, sprinkled with fresh herbs !!
