Dinner @ Barbuzzo, Philadelphia

CLOCKWISE FROM TOP: (1) Bustling dinner scene as early as 6:30 pm. (2) Barbuzzo’s sophisticated logo. (3) A glass of St. Feuillien Saison beer from Belgium. (4) Outdoor seating had started for the summer.

Barbuzzo’s reputation is no hype. All the plates we ordered were perfectly executed, the service is attentive but not intrusive and the scene is vibrant and bustling. It’s money well spent for a little indulgence after a hard day at work.

Our picks:

1. BARBUZZO “PIG POPCORN”

– This is my favorite. Pork rinds made in house. They have such flavor and crunch in every bite. With every dip into the pickled black mustard seeds and horseradish aioli, you just want to have more.

2. CHICKEN LIVER AND FOIE GRAS MOUSSE

– This is my second favorite dish. The mouse is sweet and has so much flavor.

3. SHEEPS MILK RICOTTA

– This dish is such an indulgence. It’s soft cheese mixed in with a sweet wine reduction. I can eat this everyday and not be tired of it.

4. ROASTED MARROW BONE

– The best part of this dish is the generous amount of marrow, roasted but not dry, so spreadable on those crunchy crostini. And, the side salad in vinaigrette cleanses your palate with the acidity after every bite.

5. GRILLED SPANISH OCTOPUS & CALAMARI

– The octopus and calamari were grilled but didn’t become dry. It’s soft and when paired with the roasted garlic aioli, it’s the best.

6. CACIOCAVALLO STUFFED MEATBALLS

– Barbuzzo’s meatballs are on fire. It’s the most beloved dish on the menu according to our server. They are moist and served with just the right amount of red sauce. The fire of the chile makes the difference. It’s strong but doesn’t burn the palate.
